Damp Proofing

When it comes to damp proofing it’s imperative to find the root cause of the issue. Think of it this way, if your property was built 100 years ago and you’ve lived there for the last 25 years with no damp issues until now, why have you suddenly got a problem?

How We Help

Getting to the root cause of the issue is what separates damp surveyors. Don’t look to cover it up, fix the problem.

Types of damp

Your property could be suffering from penetrating damp, lateral damp, rising damp, bridging or a combination. We can’t emphasise enough about the importance of a thorough damp survey. Our surveyors will explain exactly why a problem has arisen. You might just be surprised; a high number of damp issues are easily resolved at low cost.

When completing a damp survey, it’s imperative to follow BS 6576:2005. By following this British Standard, we can essentially rule out potential problems one by one.

Part 4.2.1.3 All other possible causes of damp conditions should be located.

  • Condensation
  • Lateral penetration associated with changes of floor/ground level
  • Leaks from rooms, gutters and downpipes
  • Water penetration around the window frames and doors
  • Mortar droppings or debris in the cavity walls
  • History of flooding
  • Faulty drains
  • Internal plumbing leaks
  • Water penetration through external walls

Addressing the problem

Time and time again on surveys it’s the real basics that are causing the damp problems. Condensation, faulty rain goods, blocked drains, high ground levels, bridged cavities etc. You can be confident by instructing DAMPX our diligent survey alongside any remedial treatment we recommend is 100% genuine.

What we tend to find when completing surveys is the masking of the problem, not fixing the issue at hand. Water will always take the path of least resistance and although short term solutions may appear to resolve the issue, it’s highly likely they’ll appear elsewhere.
